Warm-Up and Conditioning

Before you perform any sporting activity, it is important that you do the proper warm ups necessary to prepare your muscles for the activity. If you are going for a run it is best to start out at a slower pace so your legs, feet, and ankles have time to become acclimated to the physical activity. In order to increase both mobility and strength in the activity, you will need to build up your muscles by conditioning over the next few weeks so it is easier for you to tolerate a high level of physical activity.

Athletic Shoes

It is extremely important that you make sure you have proper athletic shoes that fit your feet and support your arches. You need to find a pair of shoes that has the ability to support both your heel and toes of your feet. Your shoes need to have a cushioned platform that supports the entire foot, which will prevent injury and are perfect for running or tennis. It is important to replace your shoes once the tread starts to wear down.

Running on Rough Terrain

You need to be extremely cautious when you are running up hills or uneven surfaces; try to avoid doing so if at all possible. A rock terrain with gravel could cause severe pain in the ankles, feet, and lower legs, and should be avoided. Running on hills can be done if you have been conditioned for running in such areas. However, you must make sure that you are wearing the proper shoes and are not prone to feet and ankle injuries.
